Eyebrow Artistry

Let's dive into the exciting world of brow treatments! From tinting and henna to laminating, semi-permanent makeup (SPMU), SPMU with powder blend, threading, and waxing, there are endless possibilities for enhancing eyebrows. Our brows play a significant role in shaping our faces, drawing attention to our eyes and forehead, and expressing emotions like surprise, joy, and even disappointment.

When you visit your aesthetician, you're in the hands of a skilled professional with an eye for detail and steady hands. Depending on the treatment, monthly touch-ups are usually recommended to maintain the perfect shape and keep stray hairs at bay. But we'll delve deeper into that in our future discussions.

So, let's look closer at the menu of fabulous brow treatments available!

Tinting

Some of us received voluminous, dark, gorgeous eyebrows, thanks to genetics. For the rest of us that were given gifts in another form, eyebrow tinting is a semi-permanent way to get the brows we deserve. Using a semi-permanent specially formulated dye to make brow hairs appear darker and fuller, it’s an easy and quick method to darken the brows. Those with light-colored eyebrows usually observe the most dramatic results, but people with a dark brow color can see results slightly less pronounced.

Remember that your brow tinting usually lasts for 2 weeks on the hair and only 2-3 days on the skin. Keep in mind that it might start to fade after 2 weeks due to natural shedding and exposure to water or oil-based products. Avoid getting your brows wet for the first 24 hours and steer clear of steam to make it last. When drying, be gentle and always pat instead of rubbing. Use a mild cleanser without exfoliants and skip heavy creams or oil-based makeup removers. And remember, protect your brows with SPF 30 or higher sunscreen when you're out and about. Your brows will thank you!

Henna

Looking for a great way to fill in patches and bald spots in your brows? Henna brows might be just what you need! The dye used in henna comes from dried henna leaves, making it vegan-friendly and FDA-approved for hair. Due to its natural and safe properties, it's been a go-to for centuries. Henna, on the other hand, is about 1 week on the skin and about 6 weeks on the hair, making it the more long lasting option. What we also love about Henna is the variety of colors available, making it the more natural alternative.

Treating your Henna brows is similar to tinting when it comes to aftercare. You'll want to stay away from harsh chemicals like pool chlorine and hold back on using retinoids and other anti-aging products, as they can shorten the life of your color. Although henna may cost a bit more, with proper care, those bolder brows can last longer.

Laminating

Sometimes referred to as a “brow perm”, rather than adding a curl or wave, it's straightening the hair. For instance, if your hair strands are forever growing in an unruly direction, have gaps, or fell victim to the overplucking era, brow laminating was made for you! As a non-invasive procedure, it's a hair texturizing treatment that softens the hair follicles with a chemical solution, reshaping or "setting" the hair for a smoother, more lifted look. It should last approximately 6 weeks, so if you're on the fence about semi-permanent brows, try this!

For aftercare, adhere to the don't touch, don't wet, and don't rub your brows for 24 hours rule. (Hey, as an added bonus you get to skip the gym!) While you can wash your face, be extra careful about staying away from the brow area. Plan on combing those beauties with a spoolie once or twice a day, and ask about a keratin serum for extra shine.

Ombre (Powder) vs. Microblading

Check out these two semi-permanent tattoo techniques - they create different finishes but both are all about perfecting your brows. Using a handheld tool and pigment, microblading creates realistic hair-like strokes for a soft and natural look. But if you're after a bolder, more defined look, powder brows might be the better choice.

For flawless, fuller brows, our handheld tool delicately delivers tiny, pigment-filled dots to your skin, creating a beautifully shaded appearance. Giving the shaded appearance of an eyebrow pencil or powder, these new brows can last 1-3 years with proper care. It takes about 30 days to heal at which point you may lose between 30-50% of the pigment. The touchup is called by many the 'perfecting" sessions and it is this that guarantees your eyebrows for 12-18 months. (It really wouldn't last more than that).

You should anticipate scabbing and itching. Prepare to adjust your sleeping position for a few weeks and book a follow-up appointment with your beauty practitioner after a month or two. During this visit, she will inspect for any irregularities and perform any necessary touch-ups.

Final Thoughts

Your skin type, medical history and age are crucial factors when choosing an eyebrow method. Preparation for your appointment will vary based on these factors, so when you book your appointment, discuss any medications or health concerns you may have and how to prepare accordingly. If you have specific examples of the type of eyebrows you desire, it's helpful to bring them along. Having the right shape of eyebrows can make you look and feel at your best at all times!

Our purpose here at Em Lash is to provide you with a relaxing experience using the safest, personalized method possible.
