Graceful Beauty - Smooth Skin

Can you believe we're celebrating the beginning of Spring this month?
If you feel like I do, let's put Winter behind us and prepare our bodies for sunshine and sleeveless tops! Storing those heavy clothes away means more skin showing, right? So, let's talk about getting that soft, smooth skin we all want to have.

Waxing is a versatile method that's usable from our forehead to our toes - and everywhere in between. If you're new to waxing, applying a thin layer of wax to the skin is a simple process to remove unwanted hair. It's an easy method that eliminates razor burn or regrowth stubble. The wax removes hair from the follicle (the source of hair growth), dirt, and bacteria from the skin's surface, pulling any residue from the pores. Much like an exfoliant, the skin's texture is smoother, hair regrowth is less and finer, and the outcome is clean, smooth skin that looks and feels fabulous!

We commonly use this technique for underarms, legs, bikini lines, backs, or almost any body area. At Em's, we use hard and soft wax, as hard wax is an excellent choice for sensitive areas or clients with skin sensitivity. While rare, skin bumps or a rash that might occur after waxing do best with hard wax. Clients using topical medication, which can thin the skin (think retinoids), also find it more comfortable. We can use soft wax for a faster application, but we are always happy to customize services based on our client's preferences or needs.

The Pluses of Waxing

Let's say it - waxing is fast and efficient! It's also less expensive than laser removal and can be used with any skin color or hair type. While new strides are being made in laser therapy, some candidates are better than others. Waxing results are instant! The hair is gone in seconds, and mild redness will subside within hours. Done!

And let's remember that important choice for self-care and pampering. One of my ultra favorite parts of waxing (because I am a massive sucker for everything pampering) is my esthetician putting oil on my legs after the service is done to ensure there is no sticky feeling. When she works the oil into my skin, it leaves it extra moisturized and feels like a mini massage. And who doesn't like that? Don't tell me if you don't, raise your hand, and I'll be appropriately appalled, LOL!

Timing Is Everything

Many of us have upcoming events for the Spring and Summer. Brides-to-be, bridesmaids, graduates, and tropical vacations are special occasions where we want our skin to look and feel its best! And now, before the long-sleeved sweaters and pants disappear, it is a great time to try something new! Our skin can be sensitive to direct sunlight immediately after treatment, so keeping these areas covered is beneficial.

If you're a pro at this already, consider the advantages of thinning out hair growth before summer hits! You'll be in constant ready mode when the last-minute pool party invite or that spontaneous beach trip pops up! (If any of you have had to do a quick shave before hitting the waves, you'll only do it once. Ouch!)

Wrap Up

We recommend threading for your eyebrows because it's more concise for shaping. Waxing is ideal for larger areas of hair growth, such as legs, back, torso, or arms. And for those bold and beautiful bodies who embrace a Brazilian wax...have fun with that, too!

Like many things in life, waxing gets easier and better with practice. If you're new to it, the terminology may be mystifying, but don't be shy. Our professional staff is happy to answer any questions and help you select the most suitable methods to achieve your goals.

Sending joy and light!
